SENSEI DEREK RIDGWAY CHIEF INSTRUCTOR TO KAZOKUKAI
VISITS NORFOLK DOJO NEAR FAKENHAM
A training course was held in Norfolk on May 8th 2010 by Derek Ridgway. The session started with training for the Juniors which comprised of basic punches and kicks followed by Kata. Great attention to detail was stressed by sensei Ridgway with each student being corrected where needed and encouraged to try just that little bit harder. After all their hard work the kids enjoyed some fun at the end of their class with a few karate games.
After that the Adults had their chance to learn the Bunkai to Sandan and Godan. Some present had done sensei Ridgway’s rolling bunkai to the Pinans before, but others had not and really enjoyed the experience of learning what the moves can be used for when applied. Before long most students were having great fun with the applications which can be found in both Sandan and Godan. Sensei explained that it had taken him around ten years to develop the five Pinan bunkai’s and that students must take their time in learning them and not to expect them to be performed properly until much practice has been done.
To my mind it was a huge success with Adults and Juniors commenting on what a great time they had with Derek. I would like to thank everyone who came to support this event from near and far and hopefully will do it again next year.
